  • Nov 24, 2014 I used to use Nikon Transfer to transfer photos from my Nikon (Coolpix P5100) to my computer (Mac) and it was easy. Now I have upgraded to OS 10.5.8. Why do they have to make it so complicated? I now have to use ViewNX 2 but I can't figure out how to do it. On the View NX 2 screen there is a camera icon labeled Transfer but it is grayed out.

I have a Nikon coolpix L18 Digital Camera and I have been trying to download the pictures to my computer at work which is a mac. This camera is borrowed and i don't have any software for it. And the cord I am using is from another digital though it has worked with others digitals. Boot up the program. Connect the camera or card reader. The D70 and the Removable Disk buttons are the connected sources. One, the D70 is a camera, and the other is a card reader. Look at your pictures using the thumbnails. Figure out which ones that you want to download. Select the images that you want to transfer.

Nikon Transfer is a software application that allows for the simple transfer of images captured with a Nikon digital camera, or images recorded to media such as memory cards, to a computer. It also allows for back-up copying and embedding of information including copyright into image data during transfer.

  • Nikon Transfer allows you to specify a software application to launch automatically after images are transferred. When ViewNX (image browser), or the optional Capture NX2 is selected, smooth collaboration with ViewNX allows for natural operation. Use of these two applications together is recommended.

Does not support the .NRW (RAW) format.

  • Labels and ratings, as well as information including titles and creator, can be applied to images as they are transferred.
  • Image attributes and transfer status can be verified in the Nikon Transfer thumbnail list area, and thumbnail display can be categorized by shooting date, file type, or camera folder setting.
  • Nikon Transfer allows for specification of a second destination folder, in addition to the primary destination, for saving images to two folders for back-up purposes. This provides back-up of important images in case of deletion of image files from the computer, or similar such accidents.
  • Independent sound files (.WAV) recorded by cameras with the voice recording function can be transferred.
  • Nikon Transfer can be used to upload images to Nikon's convenient, easy-to-use online photo management service, my Picturetown. Save important images to my Picturetown to increase the ways in which photos add to the enjoyment of your lefestyle (Internet connection required).

Open up your iPhoto or whatever program, and then plug your camera into the computer, and a pop-up should appear, and then click on the upper left stuff and drop down menu should be there where you can choose to Add To Library or something like that or tell the computer you want to save the files.

Use your file manager to view and copy all the image files to your computers hard drive

Do you know how to use your computers file manager / explore function? If not right click on the
icon for the control panel. You'll see a menu. Click on 'explore'. A complete list of your computers files will show.

If your card is loaded in the reader you'll see one named nikon. Click it and go to the file contained there… They your photos will be visible. Copy and paste all to what ever file suits and wala… You're done.

This shouldn't be difficult. To make sure everything is reset, reboot the computer. Then, make sure the card is fully seated in the card reader, then insert fully into the USB port. The computer should take it from there, prompting you for info on where you want to put the pix.

Don't use iPhoto or whatever program comes up. Close it down and use Finder (Mac) or Windows Explorer instead for total control. If you still can't see what you need to find, it's probably lost already due to a broken memory card. Throw away the card and buy a new one.
