I have a WMV (Windows Media) video file. But of course I don't have Windows Media Player on my Mac. Can I play this video with QuickTime on the Mac, or convert it to MPEG format? |
Playing Windows Media Files on QuickTime
Yes, you can play a WMV file on your Mac. With the recent release of Windows Media Components for QuickTime, you can play Windows Media audio and video files (WMA, WMV) directly in the QuickTime Player and also view Windows Media content on the Internet using a Web browser.

Posted by: | hi i am trying to download the windows media player to be able to play .wmv flies on my mac, when i go to the windows wesite and downlaod the win media player its downloaded in a .stx file or something, when i click on this it just says cannot open is there a easier way to download? EDITOR'S NOTE: It's in BinHex (.hqx) format, which should be recognized by any Mac system. Are you downloading to a Mac or Windows machine? |

Posted by: | I have found that some WMV files are ok with Flip4Mac but there are some which when you play them, give you audio but no video. I have tried with Windows Media Player for Mac too but it seems there is a codec that isn't supported by either platform. Another forum I read said this is the Windows Media Video Image codec. Does anyone out there have a solution for playing these particular files on a Mac? I managed to get them playing on WMP on a PC fine after installing the G2M3 codec, which makes sense as the files we are playing are from a webinar, and that is what GoToMeeting specialises in, but still no joy with the Mac. Any help you can give would be appreciated. |
